[press agency.] Kaikoura, Saturday night. The Cheviot election returns from Glenmark gives 16 votes for Saunders and 16 for Ingles. The present majority for Mr Saunders is 25. Chrittchurch, Monday. The walking match, Bowley v. Pentecost, 50 miles, for £50 a side came off on Saturday. Pentecost received a start of half an hour, in which he covered nearly three miles. Bowley, who was walking splendidly, caught Pentecost just before finishing the 38fch mile, and covpred forty-miles in 7 hours 55mins. Pentecost was then several laps behind, and retired at the 40th mile completely knocked up. The following are the acceptances for the grand National Steeplechase Meeting :— Maiden Plate : Sir Tatton, Te Whetu, Shark, Mickey Free, Cannonball, Agent, and Stockman.
