[PRKSS AGENCY.] Wellington, Thursday. Mr Thomas reports produce prices as follows:—Adelaide flour, £21 to £*22 ; Colonial do., £17 to £17 10s; oats, 3s lOd to 3s lld; bran, Is; wheat, 4s 4d; hams, B£d; bacon, B£d; cheese, 7d; potatoes, £2; pollard, £6 10s: maize, 4s 6d. Friday. A telegram from Singapore dated the 24th states that the cable ship Duke of Edinburgh left that night to repair the Penang cable, and may possibly be through next night. It j was hoped she might have it repaired in about 24 hours. The Zealandia has been placed in quarantine behind Somes' Island. It is now said that ifc is smallpox which is on board, but as she does not come under the immigration regulations there is no doctor on board, and iu consequence there is some dispute as to whose duty it is to look after the sick. Three cases are reported on board. Christchurch, Thursday. Mr J. J. Fitzgibbon, Chief Postmaster of Cauterbury, died to-day, aged about 60 years. He wa3 one of the oldest officers in the service. Donedin, Thursday. Afc a meeting of the Indian Famine Relief Committee held last night it was stated that the total receipts so far were £1105. The Mayor was instructed to remit £400 in addition to the £700 previously forwarded. Mr R. Leary, the Mayor, resigus to-day because the Council officially intimated to him that it was uot his duty to interfere with the officials in departmental work unless ordered by the Council. The Mayor took an opposite view, and, as the Council did not support him, resigned. Resignation fine of £50 remitted. The Resident Magistrate to-day decided that the Education Board is liable to be rated for property held by it unless specially exempted by statute. Markets.— Fat cattle arc quoted at 32s 6d per lOOlbs; prime mutton in wool, 28s. Prime wheat, 7s ; oats, 3s Id to 3s 6d; barley, 4s to 4s 4d. Share Market.— Mr Bradshaw reports : i Bank of New Zealand, £22 ss ; Colonial, 48s ; National, 6ils; Union Insurance, 12s 6d; Standard, 225; Mosgiel, 68s ; Union Steam Shipping Company, 755; Greymouth Coal Company, 50s. It is stated on the authority of a juryman that eight were in favor of Prondfoot's acquittal and four against it. Port Chalmers, Friday. The water-hose and office and material belonging to the Port Chalmers Corporation was seized this afternoon at the suit of the McDermid family for damages granted by Mr Bathgate, Resident Magistrate, for trespass. Ashburton, Friday. At the races yesterday, a man named Corbett was thrown from lm horse and severely injured. Drs Stewart and Treuor attended immediately, but he died at four o'clock this morning.
