The Nelson Evening Mail. THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 27, 1877.
In the House of Representatives yesterdayafternoon, Mr Larnacli, one of the members for the City of Dunedin, gave notice of a motion condemning the Government for continuing to publish the Waha Maori newspaper iv defiance of the expressed wish of the House. This has, of course, been accepted by the Government iv the light iv which it was intended, namely, as a want of i confidence motion, and thereupon the battle is to commence to-day. Whatever may be the result, it is a matter for general congratulation that such a motion has been brought forward, as it may fairly be hoped and expected that, after the week or ten t days' debate to which it is sure to give rise, as the whole policy and a [ministration of the Government will pass under review, the party that is iv the minority will accept its defeat as final for this session at least, and permit the real business, for the transaction of which Parliament was summoned, to be proceeded with without further obstruction. VVheu it is considered that the House has vow been in session eleven weeks, and that during that time the Education Bill is the sole measure of any importance that has been passed, it will be generally allowed that it is high time that our legislators left off squabbling, and commenced to work in earnest. A mbkting of the members of the Nelson Agricultural Association is called for tomorrow evening at the Richmond Institute, at seven o'clock, to prepare t!>e prize lists. An address will be delivered by the Lodge Deputy of tlio Loyal Marine Lodge this evening, the subject being— "The White Badge." The dramatic entertainment by the men of H.M.S. Sappho will take place at the Oddfellows' Hall to-uight, commencing at 8 o'clock punctually. These amateur actors so thorougly established their reputation on the ship's last visit to Nelson that it is quite unnecessary to say a word iv their praise. In order to prevent disappointment those who have been unable to procure tickets, of which only a limited number were printed, will obtaiu admission at the door. The Fire Brigade's annual dinner will take place at the Trafalgar Hotel to-night at halfpast seven, His Worship the Mayor in the chair. Mr W. R. Waters, who is temporarily holding the office of Mayor of Nelson, has beeu gazetted a Justice of the Peace under the Municipal Corporations Act. Causks for confidence. In these days of humbug and imposture the public are naturally distrustful of assertion unaccompanied by proof. This is particularly the case in regard to advertised remedies, many of which are devoid of the slightest merit. But a medicinal stimulant, professionally indorsed and used for twenty-five years as a curative of debility, nervous disorders, kidney and bladder ailments, dyspepsia, and rheumatism, deserves and receives public confidence. Witness Udolpho Wolfe's Schiedam Aromatic Schnapps. — Advt.
