PARLIAMENTARY.
HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES. Wellington, Wednesday. The House met a 2-30 this affcernooon. Iv reply to a question from Mr Macfarlane Mr Bowen promised a number of returns relating to the Resident Magistrates and the Supreme Courts. In reply to Mr Macandrew Mr Bowen said that in the present transitory state of the law the Government was uot justified in incurring the expense of supplying the Courts with Barton's Practical Statutes of New Zealand. In reply to Mr Macandrew Mr Bowen said the Government would next year iutroduce a Bill for the protection of seine fisheries in harbors during tho spawning season. In reply to Mr Fox Mr Bowen promised a copy of the information, depositions, arid correspondence in Needham's case in tho Christchurch K.M. Court. In reply to Mr Wakefield Mr Bowen said the Board offices would be temporarily used as a Court House at Geraldine till better provision could be made. The following new Bills were introduced: — Forest Trees Planting Encouragement Act Amendment Bill (Mr Harper), Public Libraries Bill (Mr Wakefleld), Registration of Dogs Bill (Mr Wakefield), Canterbury Rivers Act Amendment Bill No 2 ("Mr Whitaker). v Mr Larnach gave notice of the following motion:— "That the House disapproves of the action of the Government in continuing to publish the Waka Maori newspaper at the public expense in defiance of the vote of the House, and in allowiug its columns to be used for the publication of libellous matter." Mr Whitaker said the Government would accept this aa a rote of want of confidence, and accordingly moved the adjournment of i the Hoase till to-morrow, when the motion will be proceeded with. The House rose at 3-30 p.m.
