The Nelson Evening Mail. SATURDAY, MAY 26, 1877.
The following paragraph appears in this morning's Colonist :— « lt has been erroneously stated by the Evening Mail that Mr George, of Wellington, was .the consulting engineer for the construction of our gasworks. It is true that Mr Dobson, when in Wellington, waited upon Mr George with the plans of the works as then proposed, and which that gentleman examined, that he pointed out several improvements that were necessary, and explained some details, but he did not act as consulting engineer." Our contemporary would make it appear that as Mr Dobson happened to be in Wellington at the time he causually talked the matter over with Mr George, who suggested one or two alterations in the plans, the fact being that Mr Dobson was specially sent over by the Provincial Government for the express purpose of consulting Mr George, who received his fee for the advice given. It is not a matter of any importance, but the Colonist should take care to correctly ascertain the facts before charging another journal" with, making erroneous statements.
