The Nelson Evening Mail. SATURDAY, MAY 26, 1877.

The following paragraph appears in this morning's Colonist :— « lt has been erroneously stated by the Evening Mail that Mr George, of Wellington, was .the consulting engineer for the construction of our gasworks. It is true that Mr Dobson, when in Wellington, waited upon Mr George with the plans of the works as then proposed, and which that gentleman examined, that he pointed out several improvements that were necessary, and explained some details, but he did not act as consulting engineer." Our contemporary would make it appear that as Mr Dobson happened to be in Wellington at the time he causually talked the matter over with Mr George, who suggested one or two alterations in the plans, the fact being that Mr Dobson was specially sent over by the Provincial Government for the express purpose of consulting Mr George, who received his fee for the advice given. It is not a matter of any importance, but the Colonist should take care to correctly ascertain the facts before charging another journal" with, making erroneous statements. Notwithstanding the very disagreeable state of the weather last night, there was a very fair attendance at the Masonic Hall, when Mr and Mrs Cotterell gave one of their very pleasing entertainments, which kept their audience amused and delighted for a couple of hours. Mr and Mrs Cotterell purpose leaving shortly for Blenheim. The ltev. J. Beckenham will preach at the Wesleyan Church, Hardy-street, to-morrow morning, and Mr Price in the evening.-— Mr F. J. Jeffreys from Dunedin, will preach at the Temperance Hall to-morrow evening — The Rev. J. Bockenhatn will deliver a sermon to young men at the Congregational Church to-morrow evening.— There will be Mass in St; Mary's Church at ten a.m. tomorrow, and Vespers at the usual hour. It is generally allowed that good old pure, unadulterated whisky is as wholesome a spirit as any manufactured, and the best sample of Mitchell's Al Old Irish Whisky can be had from the agents, E. Buxton & Co. Pleasan information. It is pleasant for us to be able to communicate to persons suffering from weakness, dyspepsia, nervousness, want of sleep, urinary difficulties, tothe aged and decrepit, and those who have impaired their physical or intellectual powers by overwork, the fact that there is a safe certain and agreeable remedy for their various ills which the most experienced physicians concur in recommending.
