INTERPROVINCIAL FOOTBALL MATCH.
Welliugton, Tuesday. The football match between Nelson and Wellington came off this afternoon. Tlie weather was rather stormy and wet, although it looked moderately promising for a good game at two o'clock. The Nelson men played very pluckily and well, and their style in the field was much admired, but they se.med to be too light fbr their opponents, who bore all before them iv a scrimmuge, though they were not so active generally in open work. The wet and slippery grass interfered a good deal with the quality of the play on both sides, but told especially against Nelson. Had the day been fine the result would have been somewh-t different, as dry hard ground would have been more favorable for the peculiar qualities of the Nelson men, who seemed the moat active. In the second sciimmage, G.Nicholson, after markiug the ball, was collared by James and Webb, both oi whom tumbled on top <f him, the fnll breaking his collar bone in three places. The r<sult of the game was sixteen points for Wellingtm.and G_tor Nelson. Until the third twenty minutes Nelson had the leading position. Several protests were made on behalf of both teams, but it is not likely they will be {pressed. Altogether the g*me was rather uns-tisfactory, chiefly owing to the weather. The attendance on the ground was indifferent.
