Wkllington, Tuesday. A cablegram has bean receive! by the Government reporting that tha City of San Francisco arrived at San Francisco with the mails on July 27, contract time. Blt.fb*, Tuesday. Arrived—Albion, from Melbourne. Passenger for Nelson, Mr Lucas, and 7l tons of cargo. She sails to-night f_r Dunedin. The Ringarooma has sailed for Melbourne. Auckland, Tuesday. The barque Crown Hope has arrived from ! London after a voyage of 109 days. During the voyage tbe crew broached the cargo, and became very mutinous. The captain, with the aid of the passengers, suppressed the threatened outbreak, and put the whoie orew on brefd and water for two days. Dunedin, Wednesday. Serious burglaries have been committed by Edward Butler, alias Donnelly, who has been arrested. The Mayor's salary is fixed at £100 a year. Tha Duoedin Fire Brigade will challenge the Wellington men to a contest for the Ballarat Cup. A public meeting re the Cc operative Society now in course ot formation was held last night. The -hares are going off briskly. Christchoboh, Wednesday, A petition for the release of W. Townend, who was committed to prison at the last session of ihe Supreme Court for manslaughter in a midwifery case, has been signed by 6000 people, and will be forwarded to Mr W. 8. Moorhouse, M.H.R.. today. The Acclimatisation Society have obtained 20,009 trout ova by artificial means for hatching.
