[Per Albion ] Melboubns, Augnst 3. The Financial Statement and Budgetepeech together with the expulsion of 'M'Keao, occupied the principal time of the Assemjuy during the last week. The Treasurer, in his Statement, was enabled to show a surplus at the end of Inst year of £.2.000, instead of an anticipated deficit ot £180,000. This was brought about by the excess of revenue received ovet the estimate, and savings from unexpended votes. Berry and Service have found faults with the Treasurer's figures, and accused him of co. king the accounts, and presenting false figures to Parliament. The M-Kean episode occupied the greater part of two evenings, and his expu aion was resolved upon unanimously, although in a previous discussion twenty members voted in fav,r of some milder form of puniehment, but aoy rai Idle cour.e was considered unadvisable by the majority. The Java cable is said to be co much worn and eateu as to be impossible again to be used. Sir Gav-an Duffy is likely to be elected to fill the vacancy in the Assembly. The new Electoral Bill increases the members from 78 to 84, and alters the hours of polling from 9 a.m. to 8 a.m , and provides that the Legislature shall not close on the demise of the Crown. It also alters several electoral districts, taking members from some and adding to others. New teas have jnst arrived, and are selling fairly at la to 2s Ojd. New Zealand whe it is quoted at 5s 6d; Bank of New Zmland Shares, £18 12a 6d. Mrs Scott Siddons is a great success at the lheatre Royal, drawing a large attendance in bhakejpear.an puces.
