Wellington, July 28. At the inquiry by the Customs into the circumstances attending the accident to the Frowning Beauty in tbe gale on the 21st instant, the evidence showed that she signalled for assistance from four in the morning till noon be ore assistance was sent. It is reported on good authority that the Cypbrenea will be detained at Port Chalmers till to-morrow to bring the Albion's mails, and tbat the Albion will probably take a supplementary mail on Saturday. Auckland, July 28. Counsel on behalf of Harris and Macfarlane, junior, to-day, announced in Court that an arrangement had been made which was likely to determine all disputes, and to prevent future litigation between the parties. Three actions brought by Harris against Macfarlane that were pending are withdrawn. All the Waitemata election returns from the country with the exception of three, have been brought in b-* carrier pigeons. The foL-owing are the numbers:— Yen der Heyde, 153; Macfarlane, 167. July 29. The oomplete returns for the Waitemate election gives Von der Heyde a majority of 40.
