Thursday, June 4. Present: Messrs Barnicoat (Chairman), Wastney, Buddie, Tarrant, Percy, Campbell, Shephard, Broad, Garin, Mercer, Talbot, Kelling, R. Smith, Wigzell, W. P. Smith, Jackson, Burn, Rout, and Simmons. The minutes of last moeting were read and confirmed. The amended report of the Finance Committee was read and adopted, with the exception of clause 4. (See Appendix A.) Resolved on the motion of Mr Tarrant, Tbat from June Ist, 1874, the ealary of the Ngatimoti schoolmaster be increased to £100 per annum, to place bim in the same position with . regard to salaries as other teachers in the province who have an equal number of children under their care. Resolved on the motion of Mr R. Smith, after a division, That from June Ist the salary of the assistant at Lower Wakefield be increased from £24 to £36 per annum. Ayes, 8: Messrs R. Smith, Mercer, W. Resolved on the motion of Mr Wastney, as an amendment to Mr Kelling's application for £7, That the Upper Moutere Committee 1 be allowed to dispose of the stove at Neudorf, and apply the proceeds towards tbe purchase of another, the Board undertaking to supplement any deficiency, provided the total cost does not exceed £4. Resolved on th^motio^i of Mr Wastney, That frofflwfnn^ Ist the salary of the second asßtetant at St. Mary's girl's school be rataced from £48 to £36. X The Inspector's report on examination for the reading prises qflered by the Board was read. (SeeVLppendix B.) \ Resolved on the motion of Mr Rout. in reply to an application from tb\ Upper Takaka Committee for a grant to enable them to add to the teacher's house at Long Plain, That the Committee be informed that there are at present no funds available for tbat purpose. Resolved on the motion of Mr Rout, in reply to an application from tbe Cobden Committee for £14, That a sum not exceeding £4 be allowed to repair the present chimney or to buy a stove. Resolved on the motion of Mr R Smith, in reply to Mr Edgar's application to the Board to have the boundaries of the Motupiko Education Reserve surveyed, That Mr Ed«ar bo referred to the Survey office for the required information. Resolved, in reply to an application from the inhabitants of Waipuna, Grey Valley, for a grant of £40 to corr plete a school-room, and also as a public library and place of worship, That though the Board cannot grant assistance towards the building, it is prepared to consider favorably an application for a subsidy to a school that may be opened in that locality, provided the quality of the instruction given, and tbe numbers in attendance will warrant it in so doing. In reply to a memorial from fourteen householders in Eighty-eight Valley, requesting the Board to constitute that portion of Lower Wakefield a separate | Education district, it wes resolved on I the motion of Mr Rout, That before granting the prayer of the petition, it be, referred to the Lower , Wakefield Committee for their opinion. The following notices of motion were given: — 1. By the Rev F. 0. Simmons, That a sum of £10 be voted towards defraying the legal expenses incurred by the Cobden Committee in the: discharge of their public duties. 2 By Mr Wigzell, Tbat a grant of £20 be made to the Town [Committee to enable them to meet unavoidable, current expenses. 3. By Mr Wastney, That in consequence of the increased attendance at Clifton Terrace, the salary of the master be increased to £100 per annum. 4. By Mr Wastney, That £7 be granted to the Suburban North Comtmittee to enable them to build a idiimney at Clifton Terrace,
