WliaDgamoa Stone. — A copy of Mr Mirfin's report to fche Provincial Secretary was read. Ifc was resolved that nothing should be done until it was ascertained what steps the Government were prepared to tak« iv the matter. A letter was read from Mr J. A long discussion ensued as to the Hardy-street drain, Mr Fell said it was idle to proceed againsi, persons for creating nuisances which were unavoidable, unless some means were afforded for the frequent removal of offensive matter necessarily arising from every family, and suggested that the Board should institute a system of scavenging of its own, removing all such matter in carts as ofteu as might be found necessary. It was found, however, that scavenging cost tho Corporation of Christchurch upwards of £500 per annum, and the idea was therefore abandoned. Tho following resolutions were at length, upon the motion of Mr Robert Burn, unanimously adopted:—---"1, The Central Board, so far as this Board is aware, nofc having mado any directions or regulations for the prevention of disease and removal of nuisances, as provided by the Public: Health Acfc, 1873; Resolved, that this Board do take upon itself to initiate such steps." "2. That fche Secretary be instructed forthwith to prepare plans and specifications, and call for tenders for the construction of the sewer from the outlet at. the Post-office io Nile-street WPSt." Mr D. Burns then proposed that a deputation consisting of Messrs. Fell, Burn, Percy, the Secetary, and the mover, wait upon His Honor the Superintendent, to ask him fco place a sum upon the Estimates to aid iv the construction of the sewer in Waimea-street.
