To the Editor of the Nelson Evening Mail. Sir — In your last Saturday's issue your correspondent " F " suggests that a prize be offered for the manufacture of sacking and baggiDg out of New Zealand fUx or tow, which I think is a v<.-ry worthy object. But there is one great obstacle in the way, viz: the flax as at present prepared is not soft enough to be spun into fine twine or thread and to be woven with a loom. : " I can spin <;ood ropes, lines, and cordage out of it as at present prepared, but the flax will have to be greatly altered before your correspondent's suggestion can be carried out I offer a prize of £l for a machine or a proccess which prepares the flax fine enough for spinning into fine thread. I am, &c, T. G. Benne.
