CORRESPONDENCE.

•** We are desirous of affording every reasonable facility for the discussion of public subjects; but it must be understood that we are in no way responsible for the opinions expressed by correspondents. To the Editor of the Nelson Evening Mail. Sir— l should feel obliged if you will insert the lolljwing. I see by your issue of the 20th instant, that at the meeting of the Board of Works, Mr D. Burns called the attention of, the Board to the filthy state of ray piggeries arid back yard. I think that Mr Burns might have found worse filth and more piggeries nearer home, as I have no piggeries on my premises but a small place adjacent to my property where one pig might exist, and where I put my stable manure, which is taken away every week.. I should think the Inspector of Nuisances would be more competent to judge if * any existed than Mr Burns. Had that gentleman signed the requisition for the Bewer, so much wanted in Wairaea and Hardy Streets, some few months ago, all that filth which he complains of would have been done away with. But he seems to prefer putting people to all kinds of expense to remedy an evil which cannot be effectually cured till the sewer is properly done. If he complained of nuisances where they really exist, he might do some good. Why does he not call the attention of the Board to the ditch down to my property from the Fleece Hotel ? That would be to some pupose, for there is plenty of filth there. I am, &c, W. Paiterson. Nelson, September 22.
