AWFULLY SUDDEN DEATH.

The town was startled this morning by the report that Dr Vickerman had dropped down dead while in the act of dressing. The deceased was a medical man in good practice in Nelson, and was highly respected by all who knew him. An inquest was held at his house at noon, before Dr Squires, the coronor, and a jury of which Mr Stavert was foreman. The only witness called was, Dr. Scaly, who said: I was Bent for this morning at a few minutes before nine, to see Dr. Vickerman. I came to the house at once, and found bina lying across the bed quite dead. It appeared as though he had been sitting on the side of the bed putting on his slippers and had fallen back. That was the position in which he was found by Mrs Vickerman, who, before I came, had put a little brandy in his mouth and applied ammonia to his npstrils. Death must have been instantaneous, and was caused by apoplexy. A little after eight o'clock, his son Alfred, a lad of about eleven years of age, went upstairs to tell him breakfast was ready, and came down and said his father was lying asleep on the side of the bed. Shortly afterwards a message came for him, and Mrs Vickerman then went up and found him as described. He must have been dead an hour when I first saw him. A verdict was returned to the effect, that deceased had died from natural causes. -— ■
