REPORTED FINDING OE TE KOOTI'S BODY.

Intelligence bas been received that the body of Te Kooti has been found lying naked on the beach near Wairoa with a long rope tied round the waist, and which is supposed to have had some heavy substanco attached to ifc to sink deceased. The rope, however, had broken, and the body was washed ashore. Ifc will be remembered that on two or three occasions the report has beeu circulated that Te Kooti had beeu shot and buried at sea, so that his remains should not be identified. The name of the native who fired the shot has also been repeatedly given, bufc the arch-rebel has been reported killed oa so many previous occasions thafc his death was not generally believed in. Captain Jones, of the Murewai (in whose employ Te Kooti was for some time when he was engaged iv the whale fishery), has identified the body as that of the murderer Te Kooti by fche tatooing on his thigh, which he had observed on him when he had been oufc with him after whales, ifc being often necessary for men to strip wheu engaged in the work. Also the wound that he was reported to have received in the breast when shot was still visible when the body was found. His name could also be traced on his breast. The settlers of Wairoa do not entertain the slightest doubt that the bloodthirsty leader has afc last met his just punishment. — Weekly Neivs.
