This Day. [Before J. Poynter, Esq., R. M.] Stephen Owen v. E. Watson. Claim M 10s. for board and lodging. Defendant admitted the debt, but asked for time. Judgment was given for the amount ; half to be paid in 14 days, balance in 28 days. William West Jones, of Waimea East, was complained against, by the police, for furiously riding along the Haven-road. Defendant admitted the offence, and was lined ,£2 and costs. / Tea Meeting and Anniversary Sermons at the • Baptist Chapel, Richmond. — Two sermons are to . be preached at this Chapel to-morrow, by the Revs. Messrs. Larsen and Davis ; also, a tea meeting will be held on the following Tuesday, in aid of the funds "■ of the chapel.

Excursion to Wellington. — The Steamer Taranaki will leave Nelson for Picton and Wellington on Monday next instead of on Tuesday, as formerly proposed / New; 'Newspaper. — We have received the prospectus of a weekly j ournal to be established at Blenheim, under the title of the ' Marlborough Express,' the first number of which will be published on the 21st of April next. As that district is progressing steadily, we have no doubt but that a newspaper is very much wanted. We wish the proprietors every success. There has been a correspondence between the Governments of Victoria and New South Wales upon the desirability of terminating the existing mail contract with the P. and 0. Company. Mr. Parkes expressed an opinion that if the other Australian Governments do not contribute towards the Panama subsidy, it will be a question with the N. S. Wales to withdraw altogether from contributing towards the Suez route in future.
