SPRING GROVE WESLEYAN CHURCH ANNIVERSARY.
Two sermons were preached at the above place of worship on Sabbath, March 25, by the Rev. W. Kirk, to large and attentive congregations. Good Friday, 30th. The boisterous weather and dusty roads failed to deter the annual gathering to Spring Grove soiree. From 10 to 12 o'clock, in quick succession the revolution of wheels, and consequent rumbling noise through Richmond village inspired villagers to join the procession, the halters between two, go or not go, was rested upon the wind's lulling the favorably inclined decided to go. Opposite the place of destination there i 3 a cross road, where were to be seen conveyances of every sort, harness put together in every part of the world, peoples whose names coming from so many places, there might be no difficulty in filling up the alphabetical wreath from Ato Z. All pleased, all contented, most were playful, some climbed, others sat, and lively youth everywhere ; and throughout most strict observance of good morals not coersive, absent the policeman.. . . • - This large compauy were accommodated ia three sittings (the building was filled three times) to a repast (we would suggest the propriety of our Spring Grove friends having their spread between 2 and 3 o'clock, under one covering, a marquee ; friends having to separate will tell a mournful tale in abatement of interest if not speedily remedied). To the public meeting there was more than a gentle pressure. The building was packed ; every particle of sitting or standing room was more than in demand, the porch was crowded, and many could not gaiu admission. The meeting was opened by devotional exercises by the Rev. R. S. Buun, after" which the Rev. gentleman made some explanatory remarks as to the object of the meeting. Seasonable remarks were made by the speakers, Rev. R, S. Bunn, J. Rose, O'Neale, and S. Levy, from Wellington, interspersed with sacred song by the youths of the Sunday School and choir. Thanks to the ladies and to others who contributed to carrying the undertaking to a successful issue, terminated a happy meeting at 9 o'clock. Financial results not known. — Communicated.
