LOCAL NEWS.

EXCURSION TO MOTUEKA. Yesterday morning the Wallaby, s., according to advertisement, left the Albion Wharf, with a freight of about 150 passengers, on a pleasure trip to Motueka ; the success attending the late excursion of the Kennedy having determined the projectors to repeat the experiment. The weather was very fine, and every body seemed bent upon enjoyment. No exertion was spared by Captain Palmer and those under him to make the passengers c omfortable. The Wallaby made the passage

in about two hours, and when off Motueka unfortuuately ran ou a sand-bank, from which there was no removing her until high water. The passengers were lauded in boats, which tedious operation occupied two hours, but ; so well was it managed that there was no accident, not even a ducking, only slightly deranging some of the ladies ample " surroundings." However, as soon as the passengers lauded each "took the road that pleased himsel," determined to make the best use of their time. Of course, their tastes were various, but there seemed to be perfect unanimity with regard to eating and drinking. One jolly son of Neptune seemed to derive Teat pleasure from getting on and tumbling off a horse, to the no small amusement of the juveniles. Seven o'clock was the hour appointed to return, but it was a great deal later before the company left that crazy and dangerous structure, the jetty, a conglomeration of shifting rotten planks, broken planks, and no planks at all. The Wallaby arrived at the wharf about miduight, and every one seemed well pleased with the trip.
