Dunedin Trades Council Antics.
Employers and the " Voice."
SIDELICHTS OF INSTRUCTIVENESS.
Dour Comrade,-—lt will In l in-iT-rostiiig tn yniir readfrs io know (lint the Otapo Trades an<l Labor Council lias bfronio. affiliated with an organisation known as "Tho. Dnnodin Expansion Loiiguf," whose object it is to incronso tho population of the Edinburgh of thp South to at least 100.00(1. This body is composed of all tho capitalist elements of Dunedin, consisting chiefly of -lawyers, bankers, merchants, pt-r , .., who have no sympathy with the workers. Mr. Arnold, who refused to sign tho Labor Party's platform at., the;last, elections and' wns dofoafed, and who is now acth'ory courting the Labor Party for their support, is the Council's representative oil the League. The League has■-passed a resolution which was sent to the Premier, asking for more immigrants of all kinds— farm laborers, navvies and artisans. The Coiinnl, which is at> present promoting an industrial exhibition to advertise tho merchants' wares, finds itself in the position of being unable to protest agninst the above resolution. It is only with the help of the. bosses that the exhibition can be made a success. As the Dunedin Expansion League is of the bosses' creation, the Council is, in consequence, reduced to silence. This is the result when a Labor body adopts the policy of courting the favors of the capitalist class, its masters. Another matter will be of great interest to the workers of New Zealand. At its last meeting the Otago Trades Council received a letter from Mr. Scott (secretary of the Fjriployers' Association) asking if the Council would undertake to distribute a few hundred copies of the "Voice of Labor," which would be supplied free by Mr. Scott. The. Council-refused to accept the offer. The employers seem to know where to look for help to carry on their propaganda. Strange are the methods and black are the ways of the unmentionable "only organ" of Labor.—Yours for the Revolution,
