NGAKAWAU NOTES.

At the last meeting of the Stockton Miners' Union a letter from the executive of the Federation was read, suggesting that an organiser bo sent to Australia for tho purpose of arranging an industrial compact with the workers of that country, so that there might bo no clashing or action or interests during a period of industrial trouble. It was generally conceded that tho time for such action was premature, and nothing was dono in regard thereto. A complaint against some members for having in their possession picks other than their own was discussed, and the explanations given were aceopted as satisfactory. A requisition asking for a special meeting to discuss tlie treatment of certain individuals who had fallen into arrears was considered, and it was decided to call a special meeting to deal with tho matter. A letter from the management of ''The Maoriland Worker," indicating a §ood response from the unions in this "strict to tho levy for the purchase of the building now oeeupiid, was received with much satisfaction. Tho Union quarterly balance-sheet showed a satisfactory credit, balance, as also did the check-weigh. Messrs. C. Austin and Kenneth Ross wero reappointed auditors, and Messrs. It was alleged that in two casea considerable trouble had

been experienced which might easily havo been avoided.

It was decided to forward two remits— -resistance to Dcfeiveo Act and political council—to the District Council for consideration at next meeting, to be held on March 8.
