MANAWATU FLAXMILLERS.
A mass mooting oi between 700 and SOO members of the above Union was h. Id in the Municipal Hall, Palmerstou North, last week, when the dispute between the men and millowners regarding the conditions of men cutting flax in swamps was discussed. Tho president (11. Dalhnusie) presided. The meeting was the largest held in the history of" the Union, the men leaving the mills throughout the district at the call of their organisation, with the result that all the mills in the district had to close down for the day. As a result of a protracted discussion, it was decided that a final attempt at a peaceful solution of tho difficulty be mn.de, and for that purpose, Mr. P. llally, Conciliation Commissioner, was asked to preside at a meetinc to be
arranged for last Tuesday, between representatives of both sides. Tho men appear unanimous in their desire to see justice done their mates, and it is stated that unless they get a square deal there will be a wholesale downing of tools iv tho Manawatu district.
