GOING BACK ON US.
Sir, —"11. H." asks in a previous issue,'/'What guarantee havel, as a worker, that the man whom. I send to Parliament will not go back on mc?" The question is pertinent enough, but by the same canon of reason I might ask, "What guarantee have I in »:ny sphere of labor that the man entrusted with my affairs will not go back on mc?" Can men not be honest in the political realm ? Is not this objection the greatest bogey adduced by members of our own class? They who are conscientiously doing their utmost are
not fre,e from being dubbed traitors and called "soft-job" seekers. "R.H's" Tvr' S^i ance various Labor groups and M.P.'s is neither to the point nor strictly accurate. It behoves us to ask ourseh'es the, question, Why does the capitalistic class attach so * much importance to the political machine ? Is it ngt because' they see therein a potent weapon?' \lf Aye read "history, Aye shall learn avhence came the legal advantage and power of the capitalist class, and such measures as conscription, which seems so distasteful to us at the present, time. As Ella Wheeler W'ilcox says:— "The time has come when men Avith hearts and brains . Must rise and take the misdirected reins : : Of government, too long loft in the hands > -, Of tricksters and of thieves. —I am, etc./ Wellington. ■■ A.K.
