Revolting Japanese Tortures in Hongkong

Received Tuesday, 9.50 p.m. TORONTO, March 21. Soldiers taken prisoner when Hongkong fell were the victims of revolting Japanese atrocities. This was revealed by Rev. Charles Murphy, a Catholic missionary who was recently repatriated from a Japanese prison camp. He said the Japanese poured boiling water over a 19-year-old Canadian soldier suffering from 15 bullet wounds before shooting him. Small groups of officers were bayonetted until they died shrieking with agony. The Japanese lost between 17,000 and 18,000 men in capturing Hongkong, which was probably the reason why tno enemy was so ruthless. Father Murphy added that he and 34 other priests were placed in a small garage for three days vithout food or water before their transfer to the Stanley prison camp. Before he was finally released the Japfihese warned him that should true stories of Japanese sadism and degeneracy get out those left behind would suffer. Now, however, tho British and American authorities had decided to make the truth public.
