Plea for Centralisation of Racing
(Per Press Association.) HAMILTON, March 18. A strong plea for the centralisation of racing as a temporary war measure with a view to the conservation of benzine and rubber, was made at a largely attended meeting of racing and trotting interests in Hamilton. The Mayor (Mr. H. D. Caro) presided over an attendance which packed the room to overflowing. It was unanimously decided to ask the Government for a definite expression of its policy with regard to racing and: ‘ ‘That this meeting of owners, trainers and breeders of Hamilton and Waikato are of opinion that the centralisation of racing would bo to the benefit of all those interested in the sport in the saving of petrol, rubber and other means of transport; that if there is a move in this direction the Waikato Racing Club be requested to call a conference of country clubs to consider the question, the measure to be a temporary one for the duration of the war or until the restrictions are relaxed.” It was pointed out that horses travelling to the Paeroa meeting would have to walk 17 miles to the course beyond the 30-mile limit.
