Manawatu County Council

The Manawatu County Council met at Sanson yesterday, Cr. W. E. Barber (chairman) presiding. There were also present Crs. J. Boyce, D. W. Reid, 11. „ Fagan, A. G. Dear and R. A. Wilson. Correspondence The following correspondence was dealt with:— From the Treasury advising that an inscribed loan amounting to £5770 2s 4cl had matured and this would make a reduction of £IOO 19s 6d in half-yearly interest charges.—Received.. From the Department of Health setting out details of proposed organisation and procedure to be adopted in the event of any national disaster such as an epidemic.—Received. From Mrs. A. Wheeler, Rongotea, drawing attention to the condition of the waste water drain in Medway Street.— Cr. Morcom and engineer to report. From the Rongotea Anglican Central Vestry requesting attention to the drainage system in the street fronting the church at Rongotea.—Work to be carried out. From Mr. C. W. Davison, Rongotea, seeking permission to lay a. water pipe across the Rongotea-Longburn road.— Approved. From J. N. Harris, Sanson, complaining that surface water drains on Fagan's Line were unable to cope with the water and his property suffered as a consequence from flooding.—Referred to Cr. Fagan and the county engineer to report. The county finances were reported upon as follows:—County fund account, credit £3873 7s Id; loan account, credit £919 17s Id. Receipts since the last meeting totalled £11,244 18s Od, including £7286 6s Id on account of rates and £2500 rate subsidy. The sum of £23,657 9s 6d had been received on account of rates, representing 96.72 per cent, of the total of £24,460 19s 7d levied. Dealing with arrears of rates, the county clerk (Mr. A. K. Drew) said that the position was satisfactory and he doubted whether the position had ever been better. Reporting on the Sanson tramway for the month of February, Mr. Drew said that the earnings were £326 2s 5d and the expenses £206 13s Od, showing a credit balance of £ll9 9s sd.
