All bowlers are invited to participate in the attractive programme dravAi up. Building permits numbering six for work valued at £3208 were issued in Feilding last month. Two now dwellings are included in the expenditure. In preparation for the forthcoming municipal elections the borough roll has been reprinted and was formally approved at last evening’s meeting of the council. Applications for enrolment on the supplementary roll are now being received. Subscribers to the Feilding Public .Library now total 9U3 and during February 3548 books were issued. Fees from the rental section totalled £10.2s compared with £l4 10s Gd lor the same month last year. Water levels in both Feilding reservoirs •rero maintained fairly higli during the month on drought conditions in February, according to a report presented at last evening’s meeting of the Borough Council, everything in connection' with the waterworks was in good working order. Mrs. Al. 11. Darragh, of Kimbolton ltoad, has received advice that her husband, who is serving with the New Zealand Division in Italy, has been wounded. Third son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Darragh, Pte. Darragh, who is a fanner by occupation, left lor overseas in July, Yesterday afternoon at the Borough Council Chambers the Mayor (Mr. T. C. Seddon), supported by Messrs I*. J. Allen (R.S.A.), K. M. .Little (Patriotic Society) and C. 11. 'Tate (town clerk), made presentations to Pte. G. A. Ivennard and Pte. I'. H. James, who are about to return to camp. The old Kiwitea wooden bridge is likely to be closed to traffic owing to its condition. Actually the structure has no value to traffic, which all passes over the new concrete bridge, but as it supports the water main the preservation of the decking and understructure is essential until such time as other provision is made for the main. Feilding abattoir returns for February, together with those for the same period last year given in parentheses, were: Cattle 122 (12G), sheep 571 (588), lambs 29 (17), pigs 2411) (1990), and one bobby calf. Fees amounted to £364 compared with £311) last year. The figures for the extended abattoir district for January, with comparisons, were: Sheep 141) (133), lambs 312 (293), cattle 19 (18), pigs nil (13). Fees amounted to £l3 lbs 3d compared with £l4 13s 7d. On Wednesday evening the Baptists of I Feilding gave a welcome service and social to Rev. A. Anstiee, of Auckland, who is to supply the church for the ensuing six months. Mr. Anstiee was in charge of the Feilding Baptist congregation for ill-health, he retired from the ministry some years ago and settled in Auckland. With renewed health, he is now accepting temporary charges and began his ministry in Feilding Sunday. Feilding restaurants, particularly those which deal largely in fish, had a rather lean time this week. Meat rationing kept many people away, needlessly, it is claimed, and on top of that proprietors were faced with an absence of fish. From the experience in Feilding supplies of lish are not equitably distributed*and often the town is left without any and standing orders at distributors are unfulfilled. Oysters have not come to hand as expected owing to transport difficulties in the South Island and until these disappear this delicacy will not be available.
