Townswomen’s Guild
Mrs W. S. Woodroofe presided over a good attendance of members and visitors at the August meeting of the Townswomen’s Guild. It was decided not to invite outside guests to the guild birthday party in September owing to the difficulty in obtaining adequate hall accommodation. Arrangements for staffing the patriotic shop during the guild's week were completed. Resignations from Mrs Dear and Mrs Melville were received with regret. Following a suggestion made at the last meeting a collection was made to send a parcel overseas to a relation of one of the members, and the names of all sons and daughters overseas of members are to be collected and one name will be drawn each month. The recipient for this month will be Mrs Cowling’s son. A very entertaining programme had been arranged by Mrs Howley, consisting of a violin solo by Mrs Chittenden (accompanied by Mrs Z. Gill), elocutionary items by Miss P. Wilson, and a playette by Mrs Howley and Mrs and Miss Wilson. Mesdames Carruthers and Jackson were tea hostesses and Mesdames Tait and Kennedy door hostesses. Mrs Kennedy proposed a vote of thanks to the entertainers.
