Obituary

MR AUGUST STERN*. In the recent passing of Mr August Sterne, Ilalcombe lost one of its best known and respected residents. The deceased was born at Makino some 60 years ago and had resided in the Halcombc district most of his life. The late Mr Sterne took an intense interest in school affairs and for a number of years acted on the committee, he was also a member of the local Home Guard and for over 30 years a Sexton at Halcombe. Left to mourn his passing is his widow, a son (P. Sterne) and a daughter (Miss Amy Sterne) of Halcombe. The funeral which was largely attended and bore testimony of the esteem in which the deceased was held, was conducted by the Rev. Robinson, Methodist Minister. The pall-bearers were Pte. R. Hughes, Cpl C. J. Hughes, Mr E. Hughes, and Mr C. Tunbridge (nephews), Major P. Te Punga and Pte. Simouenson. Represented among the many beautiful wreaths was one from the Cemetery Board.
