Women’s Institutes

TIRITEA The August meeting was well attended. It was decided to donate 10s towards the support of the lepers on Makogai Island. A suggestion was made to donate old books and magazines for the use of the institute’s sic visitor. A vote of thanks was passed to the girls of Messrs Collinson and Cunninghame’s inquiry office for their I courtesy in holding parcels until called for. Some amusement was caused b; I the roll call—‘ *An awkward moment. ’ ’ ! There was a splendid response to the call for a special “bring and buy” stall effort to raise money to donate towards the thanksgiving fund. Thanks are due to several of the members who met at Mrs. Cunningham’s home to sew together the patches for the patchwork quilt, the result being most pleasing. The competition for the best bloom was won by Mrs. Shere. The motto for tho day was given by Mrs. Elliott. The 4th bridge party was held in the National Club rooms on Thursday. The lounge was decorated with pihk rhododendrons, whilo a large bowl of pink camellias greeted the card players as they entered the lounge. The The bridge prizes were donated by Mrs J. H. Whyte and Mrs W. E. Wilson, Longubrn. The prizes were won by Mrs Duckworth and Mrs J. Deroles. September 24th is the next bridge afternoon.
