Post and Telegraph Women’s League
The monthly meeting of the Post and Telegraph Women’s League was held in the ladies’ social room at the Chief Post Office, Mrs. W. G. Minogue presiding over a good attendance. One new member was welcomed. Business was speedily dealt with and the speaker for the evening, Miss M. Greenwell, general secretary of the Palmerston North Y.W.C.A., was introduced and gave a most interesting address on “India and its Background.” The speaker traced racial characteristics down througn the centuries, and she had brought a large collection of native arts and crafts from saris, scarfs, kneeling mat and embroideries to dainty carved ivories to give point to her address, one of the ladies being draped in the extremely becoming sari. The president thanked the speaker. A demonstration of doll-making with modelled face, tinted in natural colours and complete | with wig, was given by Mrs. W. J. j Minogue. This proved very interesting 'and several of the ladies intend “trying their hands.” A competition for the best doll will be held at the November meeting. A hearty vote of thanks was passed to the demonstrator. A letter was received from the secretary, Lady Galway Guild, thanking the league members for making CO hussifs for soldiers. Hostesses were Mesdames Coss and Bryant. The afternoon section was held on the second Tuesday in the social room, Mrs. W. J. Minogue presiding over a large attendance of ladies. Two new members were welcomed. Mrs. Wiggs, whose husband has been notified of liis transfer to Christchurch, will be entertained at afternoon tea, the date to be decided later. Miss M. Greenwell gave a delightful and instructive talk on India and the customs of various provinces, and had many lovely specimens of their handcrafts, weaving, carving, etc., to show. A hearty vote of thanks was. passed. Mrs. W. J. Minogue gave a demonstration of doll-making which was most popular. She was accorded a hearty vote of thanks. The meeting concluded with dainty afternoon tea in the caffeteria. The hostesses were Mesdames Bryant, Dilks and Prain.
