Learn to Swim In the Holidays

CHILDREN SHOULD BE ENCOURAGED With the holiday season now in full swing parents should make a point of encouraging their children to learn to swim. In doing this they should rea- i lise that every child taught to swim is a potential life-saver, for the occasion may arise some day when the ability to swim may result in the saving of valuable lives. Alany children, given the opportunity, acquire the art of swimming without any trouble and where children show a keenness to enter the water and splash about they should be given the utmost encouragement to continue this activity. The Feilding Amateur Swimming Club is this season desirous of eneouiaging as many learners as possible. Towards the end of the season a special event will be staged for the benefit of learners who will be given the opportunity of competing for the Frank Penhey Memorial Trophy. This valuable trophy has been presented to the club for the purpose of encouraging children to lcaru to swim and the child who wins the trophy will receive a replica in miniature. In Wellington a Frank Penhey Memorial Trophy is competed for by learners annually and it is hoped that in Feilding the trophy will encourage children to acquire a kuowledge of-swim-ming.
