From Our Own Correspondent. Personal and General. The friends of Aliss L. Pearce will be pleased to learn she is making good progress toward recovery from her recent serious illness. Air: and Airs. Alaleolm Parker and family arc visiting Wellington, where they will be guests at the Exhibition Hotel. Mr. and Airs. Coad, of Opotiki, and Aliss N. Shortall, of Auckland, arc staying with Air. and Airs. J. Shortall, Spur Road. Air. and Airs. H. E. Hocken and family are holidaying at their beach house at Foxton Beach. The unveiling of the new concrete water trough as a memorial to Hitchman’s corner and the pioneer settlers of the district attracted a large and representative gathering when the ceremony was performed recently. Alany of the pioneer residents who had since left the district travelled some distance to be present.
Owing to the busy period with haymaking and shearing, the tennis club has not. plav'ed any matches recently, but it is expected that after the New Year the sport will be in full swing again. The hamper raffled by the club to raise funds was drawn at a recent practice afternoon, the lucky ticket holder being Airs. W. Hocken.
