Maltese Loyalty

CONTRIBUTION TO DEFENCE United Pres 3 Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright. (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, Dec. 25. The magnitude of the contribution of Malta to the Empire’s war effort can be gauged from the fact that of a total population, including women and children, of only 260,000, there are no fewer than 1300 ratings from Malta serving in the Royal Navy. There has been equally enthusiastic raising of the Malta land forces to emergency strength. The Royal Malta Artillery has been nearly quadrupled during the past year, and there is now a second battalion of the King's Own Malta Regiment. She has also formed a battery for defence against air attack on the lines of the “factory batteries" established in England.
