Mutiny in Londonderry Gaol
IRISH REPUBLICANS OVERPOWER WARDENS United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright. LONDON, Dec. 25. A mutiny broke out to-day at Londonderry gaol, where 60 Republican suspects are interned for the duration of the war. Forty-five, who volunteered for exercise in the morning, overpowered live warders, locked them in tho cells and also locked the two steel doors of the corridor. They then, set fire to the bedding, smashed furniture and demonstrated from windows overlooking the street. They displayed two Republican flags. Police and soldiers arrived at the gaol. Colleagues released the imprisoned warders and plumbers re-opencd the steel doors with acetylene burners. The prisoners made a final stand in a cell armed with bottles and boards with nails. The police stormed the cell in vain. Then the fire brigade turned on a hose and compelled them to surrender after a fivo hours' siege.
