Volunteers Praised

PRESIDENT SPEAKS OUT. (Special to “Times.") WAIPUKURAU, Feb. 12. A tribute to the volunteers who had offered themselves for service in the territorial force was paid by the president of the Waipukurau Town Band, Mr. W. A. Chambers, when thanking the massed bands of the Ist. Battalion of the Wellington Regiment for tho musical feast they had presented in the Municipal Theatre last night. “I should like to thank the commanding officer of the Ist Battalion, the Wellington Regiment, Major E. M. Stace, E.D., for allowing the Regimental Band to combine with tho Waipukurau Town Band in presenting this musical feast to us to-night," said Mr. Chambers. '‘We are always glad to see the khaki in Waipukurau and are only sorry that more territorials will not be coming up this year." Mr. Chambers said that ho was glad to see the older, men, many of whom had been away to the front, still taking an active interest in the Waipukurau Band. They and the territorials in town at the moment reminded him of the war days when many of the local ,r boys" had gone to the “front." “New Zealand owes a debt of gratitude to our volunteers," he said, “for who knows but that in these troublesome days they will not be called upon again to fight for their country 1"
