Mr. A. Morris, lately on the staff of Mr. K. Nash, has left Dannevirke to take up a position in Pahiatua. During his 2i years' residence here he was a popular member of the Hinemoa Tennis Club (being secretary this season) and of the United Hockey Club. Mr. H. J. Cornwall, accompanist to the Dannevirke Municipal Band, is con fined to his bed with pneumonia. A very happy family gathering me', at the home of Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Ebbett, Nelson street, Hastings, on Wednesday, to offer congratulations to Mr. W. H. Ebbett who was celebrating his eightieth birthday. A jolly tea party was held and all present took the opportunity to wish Mr. Ebbett good health and happiness. Many congratulatory telegrams were also received. Mr. I. Langdon Prime, of Napier, left for Auckland yesterday on a short business visit. Mr. D. Mann, the newly-appointed borough traffic inspector, is expected to take up his duties in Hastings next week, the St. Kilda Borough Council, Dunedin, having agreed to this course. Mr. F. H. Bastin has been appointed by the Hastings Borough Council as clerk of works in the JayiDg-down of the new borough sewerage outfall system. Rev. J. W. Martin and Mrs. Martin, of Mangarapa, Gisborne, and formerly of Taradale, are to receive a letter of sympathy from the Taradale Town Board in tho recent loss of their eldest daughter, Miss Eunice Martin. Miss Christina Mac Kay, daughter of Mrs. Norinan Mac Kay, Hastings, and late of Maraekakaho, who recently passed the State maternity examination, left on Thursday to join tho staff of Cook Hospital, Gisborne. Mr. Noel C. Harding, town clerk at Hastings, has boeij granted leave of absence by the Hastings Borough Council to attend the annual conference of the New Zealand Institute of Town Clerks, which is to be held at Tiruam on March 9 next. Mr. HardiDg is a vicepresident of the institute. The relatives of the late Mr. Phillip Scullin, overseer to tho Hawke's Bay Rivers Board, are to receive a letter of sympathy from the Taradale Town Board. The chairman, Mr. J. Williamson, at the board, meeting on Thursday night, paid a tribute to Mr. Scullin's services to the district and said that he was a well-tried servant who had always given of his best. A big loss had been suffered by his passing.
