Massed Bands’ Concert
MUSICAL FEAST IN WAIPUKURAU. (Special to “Times.") WAIPUKURAU, Feb. 12. The concert given by the band of the Ist Battalion, the Wellington Regiment and the Waipukurau Town Band in the Municipal Theatre last night was a great success and was declared by all to be a regular “musical feast." Thero was a fair attendance. The bands, which had combined for the occasion, marched through the main streets on their way to the theatre, causing a great stir amongst the townsfolk. They were conducted both by Bundsmaster H. Baker and the Waipukurau conductor, Mr. E. Malkin. Included in their selections were * 'The Great Little Army" (march), "Nearer My God to Thee" (hymn), “Knight Errant" (fantasia—this piece, when played by the town band at the Napier competition gained the second prize ( ), “Invercargill" (march), and various other selections. “Our Director" was also played as a special request number. A feature of the concert were the lightning sketches by artist T. Revell. They proved very popular and certainly drew a large number of laughs from the audience. Other .items were: A euphonium solo (test piece) by Mr. T. Denne; a saxophone solo by musician L. Alnard; a song by musician H. Bolton; popular numbers by tho Regimental Dance Band; Mr, E. R. Perkins' horn solo (test piece); selected items by Bgt. J. Carbin of the Pipe Band; and a clarinet solo by musician I. S. Ingles. Items were also given by the Regimental Pipe Band. The accompanists were Miss H. Johnston and Miss M. King.
