TOKOMAEU. The February meeting of tho Tokomaru Women's Institute was held on Wednesday, when Mrs Boote presided over a fair attendance of mombers. Prior to the commencement of business, ; the members stood in silence as a mark | of respect to Mrs Gyde, on her recent I bereavement. Apologies for absense I were received from Mesdames Andersen and Pope. Tho points prize competition for a shoulder spray resulted:— Mrs Osman 1; Mrs Parr2; Mrs Oorlett 3. It was hoped to be able to send a car-load of members to the group rally to bo held at Foxton on February 18. Afternoon tea was served by the hostesses, Mrs Atkinson and Mrs Jameison. NIREAHA The February meeting was held out-of-doors, the hall not being available Mrs Mills presided. One delegate, Mrs Mason, was appointed to the council meeting in Masterton, the other appointment being held over till March meeting. The response to tho roll-call was poor but the committee was pleased that members were satisfied with the programmes drawn up for the past year. Competitions were judged as follows; Gingerbread, Mrs G. Connor 1, Miss Drysdaie 2, Mrs Hawkins, Mrs Mills and Alisa E. Hanson 3 equal; collection of vegetables, Mrs Mills and Mrs Drysdale equal 1, Mrs Petersen and Mrs Hawkins equal 2, Mrs Hawkins 3. Miss H. Drysdaie opened tho golden thread talks with one on Dunedin. It was most interesting and the speaker was accorded a vote of thanks. Afternoon tea was served by the hostesses, Mrs Petersen and Mrs Hawkins. HDKANUI The monthly mooting of the Hukanui Women's Institute was held on Wednesday last, Mrs Harrington presidingNominations were received for the new committee, etc. An interesting demonstration was given by Mrs Warren. Her subject was smockiug. Tho competition for the best savourieß was judged by Mrs Warren and resulted as follows: Mrs. Lawrence (green puffs) i, Mrs Leo Udy (tomatoo savouries) 2, Mrs Lawrence (tomatoe savouries) 3; best bloom in garden for month, Mrs Lawrence I, Mrs G. Udy 2, Miss Q. Harrington 3. Afternoon tea was dispensed by the hostesses, Mesdames W. Hirst, T. Colder and E. Harrington. LINTON The February meeting of the women's institute was held on Wednesday Mrs T. Lynch presiding over a good attendance of members. A visitor from Wellington was welcomed. Nominations were received for the committee. The next garden circle meeting will be held at Mrs D. Currin's residence on Wednesday, February 24. The competition for gladioli resulted: Mrs J. Lynch I, Mrs Moyes 2 and 3 in tho single spike class with Mrs T. Lynch 1, Mrs Moyes 2, Miss Young 3 in the class for six spikes. The speaker for the day was Mrs (Quarterly who spoke on the aims and the use of public kindergarten schools where she trained in Dunedin. Her talk was both interesting and instructive. Mrs Quarterly was accorded a hearty vote of thanks. The competition gladiolia were donated to a member, Mrs M. Rix, who is in hospital, Mrs Terry undertaking to deliver same. The competition for the March meeting wil be for best single dahlia bloom and best six dahlias. Mrs A. Batchelar is kindly donating a special I prize for the best bowl of dahlia*. I
