Feilding Plunket Nurse Society
MEETING OF THE COMMITTEE. The committee of the Feilding branch of tho Plunket Nurse Society met on Tuesday evening, Mrs A. C. McCorkindalo (president) presiding. There were also present Mesdames S. Sievera F Mason, W. Green, T. Donaldson, R. McGregor, V. J. Stichbury, P. G. Stevens, and Misses Mayo, McElroy and Whitehouse (relieving nurse). Resignations from Mrs R. Lourie, who had been a member of the committee for several years and from Miss D. Miller (hon. treasurer), who owing to pressure of business duties is unable to give the timo required, were received with expressions of regret. It was stated that Mrs Devine, unotner valuable member of the committee, had also recently left the district to reside in Thames. Prior to her departure Mrs Devine was entertained at supper by the committee and was presented with a handsome pie.co of art pottery. Correspondence dealt with included: An invitation to the annual garden feto of the Marlon branch, to bo held on February 24. A letter from the Palmerston North branch enclosing a donation of £2 10s towards the delegates’ expenses to tho annual conference oi the society held in Christchurch was received with thanks. Mrs V. J. Stitclibury represented both Feilding and Palmerston North branches at the conference and presented full reports to the respective committees. The Feilding branch had two delegates, Mrs Adams, of the Sanson sub-branch, accompanying Airs Stitch bury. Air J. W. Wingate, of Palmerston North, wrote offeriug to produce a musical “Pastorale,” using local talent, assisted by outside, artists. The committee appreciated tho kind offer, but could not see its way clear to take the responsibility of launching tho project. Nurse Whitehouso reported that work was progressing satisfactorily and there was very little sickness among mothers and infants.
Referring to the finances of tho branch, tho president pointed out that it was necessary to augment the general fund. During February there would be no money coming in as grants wero not available until March.
There were two salaries, those of the relieving nurse and the permanent nurse, as well as rent and upkeep, which had to be met, so tho question of raising funds wero one which required immediate attention, the president said. Mrs P. G. Stevens had already enlisted tho help of several prominent farmers for a produce drive and in this way it was hoped the money would bo raised.
It was also decided to hold a dance in tho Parish Hall on Alonday, February 22, details of which will bo advertised later.
The smd.ll sub-committee set up at the December meeting, will finalise tho details of the Plunket building plans this week and it is hoped to make an early start with the new buildings.
