Spring Show Export Lambs
LONDON JUDGES’ AWARDS (Special to * ‘Times") HASTINGS, Feb. 6. Messrs W. Richmond, Ltd.,-have submitted the following awards in Classes 274 and 276 (export lambs) at the Hawke 's Bay Spring Show, together with Messrs Shoed, Thomson and Co., Ltd.'s report thereon:— i Class 274.—First prize, Pen No. 913, Vorran Station; second prize, Pen. No. 904, Mrs C. M. Richmond; third prizo. Pen No. 919, John Barker. Class 276.—First prize, Pen No. 031, T. White; second prize. Pen No. 932. T. White; third prize, Ten No. 928* A. E. Long. The whole shipment was a very good run of well-shaped lambs—short, thick, and well covered. In fact, some carcases were too well covered, being rather wastefully fat, particularly in the loin. When a retail butcher cuts his carcase and finds it too fat in the loin, it means he has to trim some of thie fat off, which is always a certain loss to him. A number of these pens—for instance, 891, 892, 894, 895, 896 and some others—were very good lambs indeed, but rather too fat for the present-day market, and consequently they could not be classed as prize-winners for lambs most suitable for the English
