Higher Freight Puts Up Price of Coal
MERCHANTS PASS COSTS ON TO CONSUMER. * Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, Last Night. At a meeting of the Wellington Coal Merchants’ and Dealers’ Association, consideration was given to a notification from the shipping companies that freight charges on New Zealand seaborne coal would bo increased to the extent of 2s 6d per ton and tho following resolution was carried unanimously.— “That this meeting of the Wellington Coal Merchants’ and Dealers’ Association regrets that it is necessary ,to increase tho price of New Zealand seaborne coal by 2d per cwt. for cwt. lots up to 4 cwt., 9d for quarter-ton lots, Is 3d for half-ton lots and 2s 6d per tor, while coal nuts are to be increased to 2d per cwt.” The new prices take effect from Monday.
