Car’s Crash Into Gorge

PROMINENT TARANAKI MAN INJURED. Per Press Association. NEW PLYMOUTH, Last Night. Two prominent Taranaki men were involved in a motor accident south of Tamnarunui at 8 o’clock to-night. Albert Thorne, manager of tho Btratford branch of Newton King, Ltd., was severely injured and was being taken to the Taumarunui Hospital late tonight. The other occupant of the car, Mr. Truby King, general manager of Newton King, Ltd., escaped with a severe shaking. King and Thorne were returning from a sheep fair. When between Taumarunui and Tokirima, the car left the road and plunged over 300 feet of almost sheer cliff into a gorge. Another car was following and the occupants immediately went to their assistance. Thorne and King were found in tho wrecked car at the bottom of the gorge and Thorne appeared to be seriously injured. Medical aid was summoned from a nearby farmhouse and an ambulance summoned from Taumarunui Hospital. Owing to the rough nature of the country, great difficulty was experienced in carrying the injured men to tho road and at a late hour to-night the arnbu lance had not reached tho hospital.
