HAPPENINGS OF YESTERDAY* A painful accident befell Janet Coles, daughter of Mr and Mrs Frank Coles, Onga Onga. Whilst playing with other children she had the misfortune to fall and fracture her wrist, which necessitated her removal te hospital. Bhc is progressing favourably. At the end of next shooting season the Hawke’s Bay Acclimatisation Society is to liberate 500 pheasants reared at tho society ’» lurm at Greemncadows. Already 300 chicks have left the brooders to be cared lor and fattened before being liberated. The society liberated 8000 young trout (iingcrlings) in the Tukituki river last December, and according to tho ranger they all swam away vigorously as soon us they found themselves in real river water. The Hawke's Bay Cricket Association is to send a letter to Air T. C. Lowry, formerly of Hawke's Bay, but now of Taihape, congratulating him upon his appointment as manager of the New Zealand cricket team to visit England this year. The association has received from the Hastings Cricket Bub-Associa-tion a letter of congratulations ou the efficient manner in which junior crickot week was run at Napier during tho Christmas and New Year period. Hawke’s Bay will play Manawatu ut cricket for tho Hawke Cup on February 2G and 27 and Alurch 1 at Palmerston North These dates, suggested tentatively by the Hawke's Bur Cricket Association, havo now bceu approved by tho New Zealand Cricket Council. Hawke’s Bay will meet Poverty Buy at Gisboruo next Saturday and Sunday and will thereby have tho advantage of trying out the province’s batsmen aud bowlers before the Hawke Cup match, which is considered tho more important fixture. Elliott and R. McLean in the Waipukurau Court ou Wednesday afternoon charged with drunkenness and using obscene language. Thomas was convicted aud discharged ou the charge of drunkenness and sentenced to 14 days hard labour ou the ehargo of using obscene iauguugo. Tho monthly meeting of the Central Hawke’s Bay branch of the omen ’s Division of the Farmers’ Uuion was held iu the Rest Rooms, Waipukurau, ou Tuesday afternoon. Mrs G. L. Jamieson presided, the following members being present: Alesdames A. D. Wallace, Al. Tansey, E. Cole, J. C. Nicholis, J. A. Grant, Aliss E. Grant and the secretary, Miss N. Main. Apologies were received from Mesdames T. Groorne, F. Wilson, C. Giblin, T. Geenty, C. Pattisoa. Tw« new members were elected—Airs Ivan Elliott aud Airs S. Xi. Robb. Of great interest was the W.D.F.U. progress report, including tho Dominion president’s message and the activities of the provincial executives and branches. Afternoon tea was later dispensed by Mesdames Tansey and Cole, j Tho third round ol the Dillon Shield j competition between the Waipawa und Waipukurau Bowling Clubs was completed on Wednesday ufternoon resulting in a win on the aggregate for VVaipawa by 24, making Waipawa tho winners of the Shield for this season.
