Rain in January

LESS THAN SAME MONTH LAST YEAR. The rainfall for the past month was less than the fall for anuary, 1936. according to figures supplied by the Government observer at Hastings, Air H. Nelson Fowler, in his report on the weather for January. The corresponding fall for January, 1936, was 4.7oina. The highest maximum temperature (in the screen) was 85 degrees, the mean maximum being 75.3 degrees. The lowest minimum temperature (in the screen) was 41.8 degrees, tho mean minimum being 54.4 degrees, and the lowest minimum on the grass was 32.4 degrees, with a mean minimum *8.4 degrees. The range of temperatrro was 21.0 degrees, and the mean temperature for the month 64-54 degrees. : The prevailing winds for tho month [wore north-north-east on seven days, 1 south-south-west on 15 days and west-north-west on nine days. Glencoe Figures. Rain was recorded on 10 days last month at Glencoe Station, the total fall for the period being 6.08 inches. The following are the details as supplied by Mr L. MacLean:—January Ist, 1.05 inches; .2nd, .35 inches; sth, .04 inches; 13th, .62 inches; 14th, .77 inches; 15th, I 1.95 inches; 16th, .82 inches; 18th, .04' inches; 25th, .07 inches; 29th, .37 inches. | Total, 0.08 inches.
