Ngaruroro River Scheme
PROGRESS OF WORK. HASTINGS, Feb. 2. The monthly meeting of tlio Jlawke’s Bay Rivers’ Board was held yesterday. Present: Messrs C. Lassen (chairman),W. H. Campbell, R. E. Talbot, H. H. Burns, W. G. Jarvis, J. H. Sheath and G. Fairey. Leave *o£ absence was granted to Messrs J. Macdonald and L. E. Harris. Reporting on the work carried out on the Ngaruroro river scheme, the engineer, Mr G. Rochfort, said that, for the four weeks ended anuary 12, 84 men and 21 teams had been employed. A total of 7358 cubic yards had been placed in the north bank and 5384 cubic yards on the south bank. Tho total amount of earth work handled to dato was 396,650 cubic yards at an average cost of 1/11.3 a yard. A total of £10,803 had been expended on the scheme to date. In connection with the groyne at the mouth of tho Tutaekuri river, 10 side 1 blocks and an end block were required on the seaward end to complete tho work. has been cleared from Aluraekakaho ' road to Campbells and work is proceeding between Kailway road and Maraekakalio road. Protection: A short fascine was put in between Roy's Hill and Fernhili to 1 check erosion. \ Tukituki: Repairs and strengthening work have been carried out. Waitangi pump anu drain: Screens have been cleared as required and drain and pump attended to. ITutaekuri: General maintenance has been carried out in repairs to fences and eradication of weeds.
