Wages of Local Body Labourers in Hawke’s Bay
SETTLEMENT REACHED (Special to “Times”) NAPIER. Feb. 2. A basis ol settlement having beer reached yesterday, the Conciliation Jouncil at present sitting in Napiei inder the presidency of Mr M. J Reardon to consider proposals and •ounter-proposals submitted by employers and employees of local bodies in Hawke’s Bay is hopeful of setting up an award this aiternoon for localbody labourers which will probably bi the most satisfactory of its kind evei established in the history ct New Zealand As a result of yesterday’s cions, both parties have come to an igreement regarding conditions oi work, etc., and there will be no need co <go to arbitration on any point. “An award covering local-body lalourers throughout this province will le reached this afternoon, providing or increased rates of pay, paid stafcuory holidays and annual holidays and nakmg provision for permanent lands/ said Mr Al. J. Reardon, one >f the employees* assessors, when ipeaking to a reporter this morning. ‘lt will probably be the most satisactory award for local bodies arrived it in the history of New Zealand ” Proposals and counter-proposals regarding builders and general labourers >f Hawke’B Bay were considered this norning by the council.
