Aokautere

From Our Own Correspondent Cricket Club There was a very good attendance at the annual meeting of the Aokautere Cricket Club, when Mr. Wm. Anderson presided. The balance sheet showed a very satisfactory credit balance from last season’s activities. The election of officers for the ensuing year resulted as follows: Patron. Mr A. M. Ongley; president, Mr Wm. Anderson (re-elected); club captain, Mr W. Anderson; vice-captain, |Mr J. I’. Robertson; secretary and treas'urer, Mr L. Craven; lion, auditor, Mr F. Gough; selection committee, club captain [and Mr F. Judd. It was decided that the : subscription should remain as for last [season and that practices should be held every Wednesday evening and weekends. The secretary was instructed to purchase the necessary material for tho season, tho opening match being a married v single game. A challenge match from a town team was set down for February 14, the teams for which will be notified as usual, play to commence at 11 a.m. A hearty vote of thanks was accorded Mr and Mrs Anderson and family for the uso of their grounds and for their interest and help during the season. Tennis Match A tennis club team journeyed to Kairanga courts on Saturday last, when some keenly contested games were witnessed. The sets finished at Kairanga 13, Aokautere 11. On Saturday evening a further Tennis Club euchro and dance evening was held, there being a very good attendance. The winners of the cards were Miss N. Brill, who had to cut with Mrs A. Ferguson, and Miss M. Anderson. The consolation winner was Miss A. Gough. In tho men’s section Mr H. Teasdalo won tho prize, while Mr J. Lankshear won tho sonsolation prize. A dainty supper was provided by club members, while music for dancing was kindly supplied by Miss M. Anderson and Messrs A. Lawrence and R. Brill. Mr A. llopcroft carried out the duties of M.C. Cricket Match The local cricket enthusiasts held their opening day during tho week-end, when there was a good muster for the opening match, Colts v. Diehards, the latter proving easy winners. Afternoon tea was served by the ladies and a very enjoyable day was spent. Mr Wm. Anderson, president, extended a welcomo to all and expressed the hope that the season would be a very pleasant one, even though the Club was a little late this year in commencing activities. Mr W. Gosling, on behalf of the players, thanked Mr and Mrs Anderson for their hospitality and called for cheers, these being heartily given by the players.
