Ashhurst
From Our Own Correspondent Defence Rifle Club. Members of the Ashhurst Defence Rifle Club fired a practice shoot last Saturday. A strong north-westerly gale was blowing dead on the targets and it was again deemed unwise to put up the large targets. Shooting for the second consecutive Saturday was confined to the 300yds. range where, despite the wind, good totals were returned. Details are as follow: H. Russell, 31, 33, 64; M. Hausmann, 33, 31, 64; R. A. Jones, 29. 31, 60; B. Hodren. 30. 30, 60; J. Hargreaves, 28, 31, 59; li. Doreen, 22, 20, 52. Next Saturday a service shoot will be tired over the 200 and 300 yards ranges. Members are reminded to bring their open sights. Personal and General. Messrs Morris and Walter Hayward, sons of Mr. E. G. Hayward, havo secured positions at their trade (carpentering) in tho Whakatano district. Tho weather for the past week has been rather exceptional in that we have at last had a real glimpse of summer weather hut how long will it prevail? Haymakers took full advantage of the conditions.
