Mrs. C. H. Martin, of Hastings, is visiting Wellington.

Mr. W. K. Dallas, assistant director of horticulture, who has been visiting Gisborne, arrived at Hastings cn Friday, spending a day or two hero before returning to Wellington. Mr. H. Digby Smith, Commissioner of Pensions, is to visit Napier on February 10, when he will discuss with pensioners and applicants for pensions any matters they may wish to bring before him.

Dr. J. J. Foley, medical superintendent at the Napier Public Hospital, has returned to Napier. He will resumo duty this week. During his absence from Napier, Dr. Foley’s duties havo been carried out by Dr. A. G. Clark. Dr. G. R. Butterfield, son of Archdeacon M. H. Butterfield, of Wairoa, Hawke's Bay, has been appointed medical superintendent of Queen Mary’s Hospital, Stratford, England, an institution of 220 beds, specialising to a largo extent in maternity work. After four years in Gisborno as telegraph engineer, Mr. E. Walpole has received notice of his transfer to Napier, the town from which he went to Gisborne. Mr. Walpole’s position in Gisborne will be filled by Mr. J. C. Greig, of the Hamilton office. The transfers will take effect iu about a month. Mrs. W. Bowes Clarkson, Sydney, is visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. H. Hobson, Waitomo, Hatuma. Rev. H. S. Scott and Mrs. Scott, Takapau, are spending a month’s holiday touring the North Island. Rev. M. Hutchinson and daughter, with Mr. Hutchinson’s sister, have returned to Waipukurau, having exchanged pulpits with Rev. N. H. Finch, who has returned to Wairoa with Mrs. Finch. Mrs. N. M. Paulsen and family, who have been spending a holiday in Napier, have returned to Brookwood, Takapau. Mr. J. Sutherland, Porangahau, judged the national dancing at tho Porangahau sports. Mr. McKenzie Forbes, whose name was on the programme, was unable to attend. Members of tho Otane Gospel Hall congregation gathered together on Friday night to farewell Mr. Clarence Grainger, who has accepted a position at Wairoa. The guest of honour was preseuted by Mr. Howard Powell with a haudsomeJy-bound Scholcfield Reference Bible. Mr. Grainger has been connected with the church for a long period as a scholar, Sunday school teacher and member.
