Obituary
MR PHILIP SCULLIN HASTINGS, Jan. 30. The death took place yesteraay alternoon of Mr Philip Scullin, who for sixteen years has been overseer to the Hawke’s Bay Rivers Board. Prior to that he had been for a number of years obployed by tho Napier Borough Couucil and for Mr McGaffin, contractor. Tho late Mr Phil. Scullin was the son of the late Mr Philip Scullin, contractor, of Meeauee, and was born at Meeanee. Ho was educated at the Meeanee Convent School and the Marist Brothers' School, Napier. Ho was for many years one of Hawke’s Bay’s most prominent footballers, having been captain of the Napier Old Boys’ Football Club and a member of the Marist Brothers' Old Boys’ Football Club. lie had represented Hawke’s Bay in repre* mtative fixtures on a number of occasions, and was recognised aa one of tha best forwards this province has produced.
In his capacity of overseer to tha Hawke’s Bay Rivers Board for so many years his conscientious performance of his duty at all times and under all circumstances, gained him the high esteem and respect of all with whom he cam* in contact, while his consideration for those under him gave him a warm place in their hearts. In private life the same qualities of strict integrity, Jtindly forethought and consideration gained for him a wide circle of friends to whom his passing away in the flower of his manhood will bring genuine sorrow. Ho leaves a widow and five sons, <• whom the sympathy of the whole community will bo extended in their b* reavement, --
